NOTES
1. Related Japan Coast Guard publications are recommended to use.
   Always use the largest scale chart appropriate and keep charts and publications updated.
2. Hanshi Ko Osaka Ku (South Harbour Fairway)
   Vessels of 5,000 G/T and over intending to enter or depart through South Harbour Fairway, 
   which is described below, shall notify the Harbour Master of estimated time of arrival in the
   vicinity of the entrance of South Harbour Fairway, or estimated time of departure, by noon of
   the day before the estimated date of arrival or departure.
   South Harbour Fairway is the sea area between the line connecting the points (1) to (3) and
   the line connecting the points (4) to (6).
   (1) 113 degrees 570m from the Osaka Nanko North Breakwater Light (34-37-43N, 135-23-48E)
   (2) 213 degrees 70m from the Osaka Nanko North Breakwater Light
   (3) 298.5 degrees 520m from the Osaka Nanko North Breakwater Light
   (4) 141 degrees 660m from the Osaka Nanko North Breakwater Light
   (5) 204 degrees 380m from the Osaka Nanko North Breakwater Light
   (6) 269.5 degrees 620m from the Osaka Nanko North Breakwater Light
3. Hanshi Ko Sakai-Senboku Ku (Sakai Fairway)
   Vessels of 3,000 G/T and over intending to enter or depart from Sakai-Senboku Ku Section 2
   or Section 3 through Sakai Fairway, which is described below, shall notify the Harbour Master
   of estimated time of arrival in the vicinity of the entrance of Sakai Fairway, or estimated time
   of departure, by noon of the day before the estimated date of arrival or departure.
   Sakai Fairway is a part of Sakai Passage east of the line drawn at 29 degrees from the point 301 degrees
   2,540m from Sakai Signal Station.

CAUTIONS
1. Undiscovered shoals may exist around charted shoals. Mariners are advised to 
   exercise caution.
2. Depths are very changeable at the entrance to river mouths.
   Mariners are advised to exercise caution.
3. Ranges of lights shown on this chart are the least values of either nominal ranges
   or geographic ranges.

NAVIGATIONAL SAFETY
1. Vessels equipped with VHF should maintain contact with Osaka Wan Vessel 
   Traffic Service Center (CH16, 156.8MHz) while navigating in the traffic routes,
   approaches to the traffic routes and the adjacent sea area, as information for
   the safety of navigation may be provided by the Center.
2. Designated Route in the Sea Area Near the West Entrance of Akashi Kaikyo Traffic Route
 (1) Vessels which are of 5,000G/T and upwards and have navigated westward along the Akashi
     Kaikyo Traffic Route shall navigate to the north side of Line a.
 (2) Vessels which are of 5,000G/T and upwards and will navigate eastward along the Akashi
     Kaikyo Traffic Route shall navigate to the south side of Line a.
3. Designated Route in the Sea Area Near the East Entrance of Akashi Kaikyo Traffic Route
 (1) Vessels which are of 50m in length and upwards and will navigate westward along Akashi
     Kaikyo Traffic Route shall
   - Navigate to the north side area of Line a and
   - Navigate by crossing Line b (The line of 180 degrees 2,300m drawn from the point of
     139 degrees 2,350m from the Hiraiso Light Beacon).
 (2) Vessels which are of 50m in length and upwards and have navigated eastward the Akashi
     Kaikyo Traffic Route shall
   - Navigate to the south side of Line a; and
   - Navigate in the sea area more than 200m off the point of the Akashi Kaikyo Traffic
     Route Eastern Side Light Buoy.
4. Designated Route in the North of Osaka Wan
 (1) Vessels which are of 500G/T and upwards and will navigate by crossing Line B after crossing
     Line A should navigate in the area to the north of Line C.
 (2) Vessels which are of 500G/T and upwards and will navigate by crossing Line A after crossing
     Line B should navigate in the area to the south of Line C.
5. Designated Route in the Sea Area Near Sumoto Offing Light Buoy and Yura Seto
 (1) Vessels intending to proceed to Osaka Wan northward from Yura Seto and vessels
     approaching Yura Seto southward from Osaka Wan should navigate with a view of the
     Sumoto Offing Light Buoy on the port side.
 (2) Vessels intending to transit through Yura Seto should keep to the starboard side of
     the Line D (The line of 180 degrees 3,380m drawn from the point of 315 degrees 2,660m from the
     Tomogashima Light House). 
6. Vessels may be instructed to wait off the traffic route under certain conditions
   (including poor visibility).

SECTION WHERE VESSELS MUST USE THE TRAFFIC ROUTES
  In the case of navigation between line A and line B indicated by a broken line,
  vessels must use the whole of Irago Suido traffic route.

POSITION REPORT
  Vessels of 50m in length and upwards and vessels towing or pushing objects with an overall
  length of 100m and upward (excluding vessels which are equipped with and operating AIS)
  should report to the Osaka Wan Vessel Traffic Service Center, when first crossing the
  Position Reporting Line.

  Information to be reported;
   - vessels name and call sign
   - present position or Position Reporting Line crossed (abbreviation) and time of crossing.

TIDAL CURRENTS
  In the central part of Akashi Kaikyo, the W going (E going) current flows from about 3 hours
  after L W (H W) to about 3 hours after H W (L W) at Akashi, the W going (E going) current becomes
  strongest at H W (L W).
