CURRENTS The Brazilian current is found predominantly in the south-westward direction along the Uruguayan coast and in the northernmost part of the outer Ro de la Plata from November to April, at velocities below 1 knot. Outside the southernmost part of the Ro de la Plata, at latitudes southward of 36 S, the Falkland Current flows north-eastward at velocities commonly ranging 1-2 knots. During the period from May to July, the Brazilian Coastal Counter-current, an extension of the Falkland Current, flows northward along the Uruguayan and Brazilian coastline. Currents may be expected in variable direction and rip currents may reach velocities exceeding 2 knots. During the strong-wind period, currents in the outer part of the Ro de la Plata may expected to flow in the wind direction.
