INFORMATION TO PLEASURE CRAFT
Small vessels should, if possible, avoid to navigate in the large fairways North Channel and South Channel. These fairways are considered narrow channels for large ships why COLREG Regulation 9 applies.
A vessel of less than 20 m in length or a sailing vessel shall not impede the passage of a vessel which can safely navigate only within a narrow channel.
Crossing of the large channels should be carried out in as right angle as possible under great caution.
Small vessels are recommended to use the small craft fairway south of South Channel, which has a least depth of 3 m.
Passage of Rivfjorden anchorages must take place with great caution and at an appropriate distance from anchored ships.
Note that the large ships may sail at a speed of 20 knots with small possibilities to alter course.
Many fairways intersect at Dana fjord and Vinga sand. The large ships are here often moving fast under course alteration why extreme caution is required.
