DEPTHS

The depiction of reefs and dangers within the atoll is based chiefly on satellite imagery and aerial photography.
Depths within the atoll are taken almost entirely from leadline surveys of 1837 and miscellaneous lines of soundings.
Mariners are advised to navigate with particular caution as charted shoals may be out of position and uncharted shoals
and patches of coral may exist. In addition, mariners should avoid navigating close to those shoal areas that are not
enclosed by black contour lines; these shoals are visible on aerial photography but their extent below water is unknown.
For further details see the source diagram and The Mariner's Handbook which gives guidance on the interpretation of source data.
