CURRENTS The Brazil Current flows in SW direction along the coast of Uruguay and in the northern part of the Ro de la Plata, from November to April, with speed less than 1 knot. Outside of the south part, south of 36S latitude, the Malvinas current flows in NE direction, with speeds between 1-2 knots. From May to July, an extension of the Malvinas current (Brazil coastal counter current) flows in N direction, along the coasts of Uruguay and Brazil. Currents with variable directions could be expected, some of them directly from the coast, with speeds over 2 knots. During periods of strong wind, the currents of the outer part of the Ro de la Plata can flow in the wind direction.
