TIDAL INFORMATION
Water levels on the Fraser River are affected by the tides as far upstream as Chilliwack. Tidal information for New Westminster is provided in the Canadian Tide and Current Tables, Volume 5. At Whonnock, the mean daily variation in water level is about 1.5 metres when the river flow is low. It decreases as river flow increases, and during periods of high flow (freshet) is about 0.5 metres.

The datum of this chart rises in steps of 0.1 metres or 0.2m metres along the river. At selected locations, chart datum has the following Geodetic elevations:
New Westminster: -1.3
Port Coquitlam: -0.8
Port Hammond: -0.4
Haney: -0.3
Albion: -0.2
Whonnock: 0.0

High Water for elevations and clearances is the approximate level of the river during periods of average high flow (freshet).

Water levels can be determined by consulting websites such as Avadepth (Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada) and Real-Time Hydrometric Data (Environment and Climate Change Canada).
