Approaches to Tirukkadaiyur - 3029

Function : Dyna Makowski Power Company is setting up a combined cycle power plant of approx 320 MW capacity at Pillai Perumal Nallur.
The Pillai Perumal Nallur 330 MW CCPP is normal 330 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant, using a combination of Naphtha and natural gas as primary fuels. The Naphtha will be delivered to site through 20,000 MT Ocean Going Ships and offloaded through Single Point Mooring System and stored at site in 3 in Nos. 28,000 Cum. Capacity steel tanks. The natural gas will be transferred through pipelines from Gas Field of ONGC.
Conspicuous Objects :
	Chimney (11 04'.35 N, 79 50'.19 E), 98m high.
	Water Tower (11 04'.09 N, 79 51'.22 E).
	Racon/ New Port Office Building (11 04'.41 N, 79 51'.16 E).
	Pump House (11 04'.37 N, 79 51'.17 E).
Directions :
The chart is on a large scale and sufficient guide for entering the Port. On arrival the ship has to wait East of SPM which is about 2500m E of coastline. The two conspicuous objects New Port office and Chimney are almost in line with SPM at bearing 270.
Tides :
For tides refer to Nagapattinam.
Tidal Stream :
The tidal stream speed and direction were found to be fluctuating however predominantly southerly with stream varying between 3.5 knots to 1.0 knots.
Sea bed and Topography :
The seabed with in the charted area is gently shelving towards west. The sea bed is mostly comprised of 'soft mud', thus providing a good holding ground. The area generally comprises of flat and even bottom, but for the line joining SPM and the coast where trenches were cut to lay suction and discharge lines of sea water and Naphtha Pipeline.
Wrecks and obstructions :
The charted area is free of wrecks and under water obstructions but for the Pipe lines joining SPM with the coast
Harbour :
The harbour is open and does not provide any protection against elements of nature.
Buoys :
One SPM buoy and two navigational buoys to mark the intake and discharge structures for the sea water used for cooling the power plant are laid in position :
	SPM buoy (11 04'.41 N, 79 52'.585 E)
	Buoy at seawater intake structure (11 04'.39 N, 79 51'.97 E)
	Buoy at discharge structure (11 04'.40 N, 79 51'.68 E)
Fishing activity :
Dense fishing activity is observed around the harbour area during the daytime. Sparse fishing activity is observed after sunset.
