CAUTIONS
1. Undiscovered shoals may exist around charted shoals. Mariners are advised to
   exercise caution.
2. Depths are very changeable at the entrance to river mouths.
Mariners are advised to exercise caution.
3. Ranges of lights shown on this chart are the least values of either nominal ranges
   or geographic ranges.

NAVIGATIONAL SAFETY (Kanmon Kaikyo and Adjacent Waters)
1. Vessels equipped with VHF should maintain contact with Kanmon Kaikyo Vessel
Traffic Service Center (CH16, 156.8MHz) while navigating in the traffic routes,
approaches to the traffic routes and the adjacent sea area, as information for
the safety of navigation may be provided by the Center.

2. The Kanmon Kaikyo Vessel Traffic Service Center gives guidance to the following
vessels in order to avoid meeting another vessel in Hayatomo Seto Fairway.
Hayatomo Seto Fairway is that part of Kanmon Passage between the W line of Kanmon Bridge
and a line drawn 130 from Hinoyamashita Signal Station.
 (1) Between general cargo vessels:
Each vessel of 10,000 G/T and over.
 (2) Between oil tankers:
Each vessel of 3,000 G/T and over.
 (3) Between a general cargo vessel and an oil tanker:
A general cargo vessel of 10,000 G/T and over, and an oil tanker of 3,000 G/T and over.

3. Vessels may be instructed to wait off the passage under certain conditions
   (including poor visibility).
Vessels unable to maintain a ground speed of 4 knots against the tidal stream
in Hayatomo Seto may be instructed to wait off the passage.

POSITION REPORT

TIDAL CURRENTS
  Hayatomo Seto
In the mid-channel the E-going and W-going currents achieve their maximum rates at about
the time of LW and HW, respectively, at Dannoura. Near the shore on either side of the
channel the maximum rates occur about 30 minutes earlier than in the middle part.
The E-going and W-going currents regularly occur twice a day, but caution should be
exercised during neap tides, especially in spring and autumn and in winter when the wind
blows continuously from between N and W, when the W-going and E-going currents may occur
only once a day for 2-3 days, the latter flowing for over 10 hours.
The W-going current is strongest in an area about 2000m in length and 150-350m in width
extending south-westwards along Kanmon Passage between Moji Saki and Shimonoseki, while
the E-going current is strongest in an area about 1200m in length and 200-300m in width
extending north-eastwards along the passage between Moji Saki and Shimonoseki.

Eastward of Hayatomo Seto, Off Chofu-Takaba
Tidal currents along the main route turn 10-20 minutes later than in Hayatomo Seto.
South of Manju Shima they turn about 30 minutes earlier, on the E or W side of the
island about 1.5 hours later, and in the vicinity of He Saki 1-1.5 hours earlier,
    than in Hayatomo Seto.

From West Entrance of Hayatomo Seto to East Entrance of O Seto
Tidal currents along the main route turn about 30 minutes earlier than in Hayatomo Seto,
but near to the shore the currents turn earlier than in Hayatomo Seto.
The nearer to the shore, the earlier the current turns: 3-4.5 hours earlier in Moji Ku.

Between Hiko Shima and Ganryu Shima
Tidal currents in the mid-channel turn almost at the same time as in Hayatomo Seto,
but near to the shore on either side of the channel, the currents turn about
30 minutes earlier than in Hayatomo Seto.

  O Seto
Tidal currents in the mid-channel and either side of the channel turn about 30 minutes
    earlier than in Hayatomo Seto.

  Westward of O Seto
Tidal currents in the mid-channel S of Hika Shima turn about 10 minutes later than in
Hayatomo Seto, but near to the shore on either side of the channel, the currents turn
about 20 minutes earlier than in the mid-channel.
