PROCEDURE:
(1) Pilotage is compulsory for vessels over 100 tons and is available H24
(2) Vessels should send ETA 96h in advance with confirmation 48h in advance to the agents. The 96h message should contain the following information:
      (a) Masters name
      (b) ETA
      (c) Present loaded displacement, draught, GT and NRT
      (d) Ports visited in last 30 days
      (e) Distance manifold from amidships
      (f) Cargo quantities on board
      (g) Supplies and cash requirements
(3) Vessels should send ETA 24h in advance to the Hr Mr. 
(4) Failure to comply with the foregoing could incur berthing delays. 
(5) Vessels bound for Mumbai (Bombay) should call Bombay Port Control on VHF Ch 12 when approaching Bombay Lt F (1850'.00N 7244'.15E). 
(6) Pilot boards in the pilot vessel's cruising ground. 

Vessel Traffic Management System
DESCRIPTION:  The Vessel Traffic System controls traffic to both Mumbai (Bombay) and Jawahar Lal Nehru Ports.
POSITION: 18 55.73N, 72 50.65E
AREA BOUNDARY: The Mumbai VTS area will be covered within following co ordinates. 
(i)  (MFL) 1/ Reporting Line (1850.00E 7240.90E).
(ii)  Mumbai Pilot Station (1851.50E 7249.50E).
(iii) Precautionary Area A (as marked on Chart)
(iv) Jawaharlal Nehru Port (south western limit)
The Mumbai VTS area is not subdivided into separate operational sectors. Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust operates a Port Information Service for vessels within its dock and harbour area.
CALL:  All vessels when navigating or anchored within Mumbai VTS area must maintain a continuous listening watch on VHF Channel 12 at all times. The following call sign should be used for calling attention within Port Limits:-
(i)   Mumbai VTS
(ii)  Mumbai Pilots
(iii) JNPT Pilots

PROCEDURE:  All vessels of 300 GRT or more, bound to or from or passing through the Mumbai VTS Area and vessels bound to and from anchorages or other locations are required to communicate with Mumbai VTS on VHF Channel 12.
Vessels bound for or from JNPT port are to call Mumbai Port VTS for instruction and thereafter inform JN Port on Channel 13 about their schedule/movement. However, they are to be available on Channel 12 all the time when in transit within the Mumbai Port limits.
Vessels proceeding to outer anchorage, i.e. area alpha and Port lighterage anchorage are to make report one hour prior to their ETA in the area on VHF Channel 12 and also inform the time of their anchoring.
All vessels in Mumbai VTS area must maintain VHF channel 12 at all times for communications/instructions from the Mumbai VTS.
All vessels scheduled for moving from Mumbai Port as well as JN Port must inform the Mumbai Port VTS at least 30 Min prior to leaving berth. Vessels proceeding to anchorage or leaving anchorage must also report to Mumbai VTS at least 1 hour before getting underway.
Vessel leaving JNPT port should inform the Mumbai VTS when leaving berth their ETA to the Mumbai Port and again when reaching Mumbai Port limits.
Vessels to and from the Indian Naval tidal basin are also required to report to directions and procedure of Mumbai VTS. They need to give positive identification such as type of vessel and call sign
The reporting points in Mumbai VTS area are as follows:-
(i) Initial call when two hours from Mumbai Port limits including their present location.
(ii) On entering Mumbai Port Channel (Outer Prongs Reef Buoy).
(iii) On reaching Pilot Station area.
(iv) Designated anchorage (anchorage area Alpha and Port lighterage Anchorage).
(v)  The fair weather Pilot Station for Mumbai Port is 1851.50E 7249.50E. During monsoon and rough weather the vessels may be directed by Pilot in co-ordination with VTS to a safe embarkation/disembarkation point.

PROCEDURE: All vessels are advised to maintain a continuous listening watch on VHF Ch 06 and 19 and give a wide berth.

CALL: Jawaharlal Port Control 
FREQUENCY: Pilots: Ch 13

PROCEDURE: 
(1) Pilotage, which is available H24, is compulsory for vessels over 200 GT. 
(2) Vessels should send ETA, together with request for pilot at least 48h prior to arrival, stating the following: 
      (a) Vessel's name 
      (b) Master's name 
      (c) Port of Registry 
      (d) Last port of call 
      (e) LOA 
      (f)  GT 
      (g) Type  of vessel 
      (h) Maximum draught in metres 
      (i) Class of dangerous cargo 
      (j)  Any defects in engine, radar etc 
(3) Vessels should confirm ETA on VHF Ch 13 at least 3h prior to arrival. 
(4) Vessels at anchor are required to maintain a continuous listening watch on VHF Ch 13 and 16. 
(5) Vessels embarking a pilot should maintain a continuous listening watch on VHF Ch 13 for Jawaharlal Port Control and VHF Ch 12 for Bombay Port Control. 
(6) Pilot boards in position 1851'N 7249'E (approx). In monsoon conditions pilot boards inside the channel. 

Vessel Traffic Management System

PROCEDURE: 
(1) Vessels bound for Jawaharlal Nehru should report to Bombay Port Control. For details see MUMBAI (BOMBAY). 
(2) Vessels of 200 GT or more should report to the VTMS stating their ETA and time of arrival at the outer roads. 
(3) In addition to reporting vessels must maintain a continuous listening watch on VHF Ch 13 and also VHF Ch 12 on the approach. 
(4) All vessels in the inner anchorage area must maintain a continuous listening watch on VHF Ch 13 at all times.
