TIDES AND TIDAL STREAMS

It has been reported that the tidal streams at
choke points along the Khawr Shityanah, as
far as Umm Qasr, reach up to 6 knots. Extreme
care should be taken when in the area at lower
low water; the tidal height has been reported to
be one metre less than expected. In addition,
a north-westerly wind can lower the height of
tide by up to 02m and delay high and low
water by about 30 minutes; a south-easterly
wind will have the opposite effect.
