CAUTIONS

1.	SURVEY DATA:

Surveys are incomplete in the waters around Svalbard and the charts contain data from a mixture of surveys with differing quality.

Zone of Confidence (ZOC) categories have been applied to assist in determining the degree of reliance, which can be placed on the depth information displayed in the charts.

There may be several different ZOC areas within each chart. ZOC values have been assigned based upon the type of survey and the year the survey was conducted.
Data obtained from multibeam surveys conducted after January 2014 have been assigned CATZOC A1.
Data from multibeam surveys conducted between the years 2000-2013 have been assigned CATZOC A2.
Data obtained from older surveys (prior to the year 2000) have been assigned either CATZOC B, C or D.

ZOC values can be used to assess the limitations of hydrographic data and associated level of risk to navigation in different areas of the charts.

Soundings shown in unsurveyed areas as well as within the 50 meter depth contour for areas with CATZOC B, C and D must be considered unreliable and navigation within these waters should be avoided whenever possible.

2.	SHALLOW AREAS NEAR THE SHORELINE:

Close to the shore, there can be unsurveyed areas or areas of poor data quality.
Due to the charts scale such areas are not always visible on nautical charts.
Navigation in these waters must be exercised with extreme caution.

3.	FRONTS OF GLACIERS:
Limits of glaciers are subject to frequent change. In front of glaciers going into the sea, there are major variations in depth conditions from year to year and depths are uncertain.
Such areas must be considered as unsurveyed. Such conditions must be taken into account when navigating in these waters and caution exercised.
