SALAYA HARBOUR

General information:

1	Salaya is a small town at the head of Salaya Creek, about 8 miles within the harbour entrance; the town is inaccessible through sea at low water. The town of Khambhaliya, where several old temples are located,
	is situated 7 miles SSE of Salaya Town.

2	Salaya has two harbours, of which the first one is a small fishing harbour which is extensively used by locally built Dhows. The local populace predominantly use this harbour for fishing activities.

3	The main harbour of Salaya is the Essar Bulk Terminal (Salaya) limited. The Terminal is connected to the Essar Power plant by means of road.

Salaya Fishing Harbour:

1	Position. Salaya Fishing Harbour (22 19'.0 N, 69 46'.0 E) is situated approximately 7.5 miles SSE of Kalubar Tapu Lt. it is entered between drying coral reefs extending NE from Dhani Bet and SW from Kalubhar Tapu.

2	Function. Generally, local fishing dhows use the port regularly. The harbour also serves for building of small dhows and undertaking their repairs.

3	Topography. Dhani Bet, which forms the SW side of the harbour, is a flat peninsula of sand and mud, fringed with mangroves. The peninsula is covered at high water springs except for some sand ridges at its N end;
	a sandbank close NW of the peninsula dries 3 to 5 m and the surrounding coral reef dries about 3 m NE side of the harbour is formed by Kalubhar Tapu (Karumbhar Island), it resembles Dhani Bet in composition but there
	is a low narrow ridge of sand, covered with low scrub, along its N side. Kalubhar   Reef (Karumbhar Reef) surrounds the island, it consists of hard dead coral and some very soft mud flats which are dangerous to walk
	on at low water; the reef covers at half tide.

4	Approach and entry. Approach to the port is from NW, across a bar of soft mud, and entered between the reefs of Dhani Bet and Kalubhar Tapu along the road towards Essar Bulk Terminal (Salaya) limited entering into
	the Salaya Creek. The harbour is located 3 miles south of the creek mouth.

Limiting conditions:

1	Tidal levels. Mean spring range about 3.8 m; mean neap range about 2.5 m. See information in Tide Tables.

2	 Harbour layout. The port consist of a cemented jetty with facilities to position dhows. 

3	Storm signals are displayed at the Salaya by using the brief system.

4	 Tidal streams exist from 2 to 3 miles off the entrance to the harbour, the in-going stream sets East and out-going West, they attain a rate of 1 knot at Neaps.

5	Transportation. Salaya and Khambhaliya are both connected by road and general railway system.

Essar Bulk Terminal (Salaya) Limited

1	The principal activities are import of coal, limestone, fertilizers and bauxite. 

Anchorages:

1	Anchorage may be obtained at a depth of approximately 20 m. nature of bottom is Sand/Mud. Pilotage to anchorage is not compulsory. Nevertheless the port may be contacted by all vessels entering in
	order to obtain anchorage position.

2	Piers and Jetties. The length of the berth is 385 m. ships of draught up to 14 m and capacity of 1, 05,000 DWT can be berthed.

1	 Pilotage to the port is compulsory. Authority for requesting pilot is Essar Bulk Terminal (Salaya) Limited. Pilot board in position 2230'.25N, 6931'.31E.

1	Tidal Levels. Mean Spring range is about 6.3 m; tidal stream is generally south westerly. See information in tide tables.

2	Winds are predominantly South Westerly.

	Kalubhar Tapu Light (22 26'.32 N, 69 35'.23 E) .
	Chudeshvar VTS Tower (22 21'.9 N, 69 32'.5 E).

Facilities:

1 	Tugs: The port provides tug facilities round the clock. Authority for request is Essar Bulk Terminal (Salaya) Limited.

2	Repairs: The port has no facility to undertake any repairs/maintenance.

3	Supplies. Fuel, freshwater and provisions are available on prior notice.

4	Stockyard facilities: Spread over an area of 3, 20,000 sq.m, the stockyard has a capacity of 7.5 lakh ton for coal and pet coke. It also has a dust suppression system and a dust extract system at junction houses.

Transportation:

1	State highway 25(SH-25) which runs from Rajkot to Okha.

2	By Rail: Salaya is located approximately 13 kms from Jamnagar-Okha line. Rail connectivity to the port is in progress.

3	By Air.	 Jamnagar is the nearest airport at a distance of 45 km.

Blunt Channel :
9.75
1	General information. Blunt Channel (22 24'.0 N,69 39'.0 E), lying between Kalubhar Tapu Island and the mainland S, connects the head of Salaya Harbour with Pathfinder Inlet situated on the E side of the island.

2	Small craft with draught of about 1.8 m can use this channel at any state of the tide; however, it is narrow and tortuous and difficult to distinguish when the reefs and mud flats are covered.
	Three pole beacons (0.6 m high) marks the N side of the channel but they cannot be relied upon. Local knowledge of the channel is essential for transiting through this channel.
Vadinar Offshore Terminal

Chart - 203, 2060, and 2051
9.78
1	Position. Vadinar Offshore Terminal, a satellite port of Kandla lies 5 miles SE of the E end of the deep-water route. Vadinar Offshore Oil Jetty exists in position Berth A (2226'39N, 69 40'11E),
	Berth B (2227'10N, 69 40'11E).

2	Function. The port imports crude oil for Essar Refinery through Single Buoy Moorings (SBM) and exports refined product through both jetty.
 
3	Lighterage operation is conducted within a circle of radius 1 NM centered at position (22 32'.0 N, 69 36'.5 E) from May to Oct. Vessels are advised to maintain a listening watch on VHF Ch 12 during lighterage operations.

4	Arrival Information. Vessels should send ETA 72, 48, and 24 hours in advance to the Harbour Master Kandla and to the local agents at Jamnagar.

1	Pilotage: To enter the port, pilotage is compulsory. The pilot boards the tankers about 3 miles NNW of the SBM III. Tankers are berthed during daylight hours, but may unberth at night
2	Port Radio. 24 hrs watch on VHF Ch 67, 12 and 16.

Directions:

1	SBMs. Vessels approaching the SBMs should reach to Pilot Boarding Station at position (22 33'.00 N, 69 38'.00 E) in depth of about 35m passing through the deep water route.

2	Vadinar Offshore Oil Jetty. Vessels approaching the Vadinar Offshore Oil Jetty should reach to Pilot Boarding Station at position (22 28'.55 N, 69 39'.80 E) in depth of about 22m passing through the deep water route.
	After reaching (22 27'.72 N, 69 39'.92 E), the vessels should follow the bearing 172.5 taking forward and aft transit on line.

1	Kalubhar Tapu Light:

2	Flood light Tower on Vadinar Jetty. In position (22 26'.37 N, 69 40'.51 E), height 12m.

3	SBMs. Three SBMs exist NE of Pathfinder Inlet. A Racon transmits, a light is exhibited and a horn fog signal sounded from SBM I. For details of Racon see relevant List of Radio Signals.

4	Channel buoys.The Pathfinder Inlet is demarcated with channel buoys.

5 	Transit Marks. Two local transit marks are there on the approach to Vadinar Offshore Oil Terminal. The transits lie on a bearing of 172.5. 

6 	Beacons	. The entrance of the Vadinar channel is marked by two beacons.

1	Anchorage. Vessels may obtain anchorage 4 miles NW of the terminal, near the pilot boarding place, in a depth of about35 m. Another anchorage is available inside the Vadinar channel about
	1 mile S of the entrance of the channel.

2	Prohibited anchorage. Anchoring and fishing is prohibited areas are shown on the chart.

3	Tugs. Available round the clock. Vessels can request for tugs through agents. Requesting authority: Chief Operation Manager, OOT KPT/Signal Station.

4	Berthing and Wharfs. The port consists of two berths; each berth is 300 m in length and has 20m of depth alongside.

5	Six mooring buoys for the vessels awaiting a berth are available in the Vadinar Channel.
