Requirements for ECDIS hardware and software for AVCS installation.

One of the Frequently Asked Questions is as follow:

What equipment is  required to install AVCS Chart?

AVCS is compatible with all ECDIS and ECS (Electronic Chart Systems) that meet IMO Performance Standards requirements. British Admiralty AVCS charts can be installed on almost all systems that work with the required S-57 (+S-63) standard and can be used in any ECDIS. The AVCS charts are delivered in protected format according to the industry standard S-63 / S-57, guaranteeing compatibility with all ECDIS sold today – even in a mixed fleet. The minimum requirements and the list of manufacturers - please see the Section Specifications.

S-57, S-63 and S-52 are some of the important ECDIS and ENC Standards that have been developed by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) to ensure that all Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) are accurate, secure and can be interpreted correctly by type-approved Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS).

Key features of AVCS include the global maritime ENC coverage with more routes and ports than any other competing service.

The manufacturer of each ECDIS and installed software version are indicated in the specification. The ECDIS equipment must conform to the relevant IMO performance standards. ECDIS units on board  are  required  to  comply  with    performance  standards. Please check on International Hydrographic Organization website, and on the site of the particular ECDIS manufacturer.
